When the pores are blocked and filled with sebum, the bacteria multiply in great numbers as they feed off the sebum. Infection, swelling and pain is felt due to the growing number of bacteria in the area.
Hormonal changes can cause the sebaceous glands to be hyperactive. During pregnancy, puberty and menstrual period, people experience acne breakouts due to hormonal changes which then cause hyper stimulation of the sebaceous gland. The hormones stimulate the gland to produce excessive sebum.

Dermabrasion is a medical procedure that started in the 50’s. It is cosmetic in nature. The surface of the skin is removed by sanding or abrasion. If often requires anesthetic because the procedure is painful. Scars can also be treated with dermabrasion. However, it is not so effective with sunken scars.

Some of the best medicated acne creams and gels include benzoyl peroxide and retinol products. However, before using these treatments, make sure to consult a dermatologist or skin doctor to make sure that the product will benefit you.
Acne vulgaris can be very depressing. Mild forms are easily treated. However, with severe forms it usually takes medication and cosmetic procedures to remove the acne entirely. Lastly, do not experiment on your skin because it can just aggravate the skin problem.
